THE FULL POUR
It seems fewer travelers make the journey out to Moeder Lambic Original, and opt for only Moeder Lambic Fontainas. Maybe because it’s further from the core of Brussels, rumored to be smaller and doesn’t have the surrounding attractions of Fontainas. What's pleasantly surprising though, is that the original provides an experience all its own. Just like its younger sibling, there is a tremendous variety of international beers. The cozy atmosphere is laced with wood accents, has a friendly staff and a laid back vibe that unconditionally invites one to idle. Where it differs a bit, are the patrons. The beat of the drum here feels more local, more relaxed. On this corner, atop this hill, one gets the feeling they are sipping amongst regulars.
WHY IS THIS ON THL?
It may be that Moeder Lambic Fontainas unintentionally plays a little defense on visitors making the trip out here, but the original version rewards those that wander a bit further with a glimpse of what daily life in a Brussels neighborhood may actually feel like. Nice days are particularly memorable, as the place is drenched in light with outdoor seating. The downstairs zone, while much more intimate, seems to function as space for special events or overflow during peak times. It is loaded with taps, possessing the same high quality feel and nice attention to detail. If all of this isn’t enough, just remember that it can be paired with a stop at nearby Malt Attacks. You’ve come all the way to Brussels, just do it already.
