The Full Pour
Your Hop Leaves host was quite aware of Schneider Weisse before relocating to Europe. You see, there is this particular wheat doppelbock of theirs that we Americans rave about and chances are that you've seen it on tap in some of the more distinguished craft beer haunts in the US. If you haven't had Aventinus just yet, this is one of two excellent places to do so. The other would be right at the brewing source, in Kelheim. Schneider Weisse was founded in Bavaria over 140 years ago. While the original brewery was located in Munich, it was moved to Kelheim in 1945. Their wheat beers are all created with the highest of quality standards. Having one at this historic tavern, right off the Marienplatz, is an absolute Bavarian requirement.
Why is this on THL?
Along with the Augustiner Bräustuben, this historical landmark will remind you of why you have ventured to Munich. With a location right near the Glockenspiel (Marienplatz), it can get quite touristic during the Oktoberfest. Even with that in mind though, you'll be quite surprised to see just how many Bavarians routinely frequent this critically-acclaimed venue. The wheat beers are outstanding, the hearty fare is perfectly-matched and the atmosphere is quite unrivaled. After 10+ visits to this place, it has simply refused to lose any of its luster through the years.
