THE FULL POUR
Have you heard? The Castle has relocated to a shiny new space in Mitte. Sure, it's highly probable that their loyal regulars living in the immediate area of the original location weren't too thrilled for this change, but anyone that has visited the new space can easily deduce that they've totally made the right call. Not to mention, they are merely steps away from the Nordbahnhof, making a visit here quite effortless for both disgruntled regulars and new visitors alike.
As you take a look around the new digs, It's evident that the folks behind The Castle really took the time to think their concept through for this relocation. They're open early, so the coffee shop vibe is perfect as the sunny storefront lets in lots of light. But as the day transitions, the interior design lends itself well to a suitable craft beer bar experience as well. How did they ever do that!? Speaking of craft beer, there are 20 taps to choose from and the range of styles is diverse. As you stare at those tap options blankly, remember to look behind you for a reach-in loaded with bottles and cans too.
The exterior of the all-new Castle is somewhat misleading, as it's hard to visualize just how cavernous this place actually is from the curb. Once inside though, it's pleasantly surprising to behold just how many ways one can kick back in there. Feeling social? Sit at the bar and chat with the gracious crew taking care of things. Want something more intimate? Choose from leather couches and seating nooks throughout the winding interior. When the weather cooperates, there are tables out front and a massive biergarten out back too. With all of this going for it, one can easily see this space functioning effortlessly for special events and other beer-related happenings. Not merely by "hoppenstance," it seems.

WHY IS THIS ON THL?
The early signs of a "beer corridor" might be starting to take shape in Mitte. We're not talking 30th street in San Diego just yet (apologies for yet another California analogy), but the addition of KASCHK and Mikkeller certainly makes things exciting for this neck of the Berlin woods. Getting back to those previous locals mentioned at the onset of this post, they are referenced for a reason. We should all be so lucky as to have The Castle around the corner in our neighborhood. The "Beer Cafe" approach to craft is an interesting development that seems to be growing in popularity. Having exceptional coffee and craft beer in your offerings is always going to get the attention of The Hop Leaves. Delivering said offerings on a higher level, in a fantastic space, will unquestionably get you a firm spot under destinations.
