The Full Pour
Stone Brewing is not the first American entity to make a compelling contribution to the Berlin craft beer explosion. For a taste of the initial wave of influence from across the Atlantic, one must travel north to Wedding. To be sure, a strong passion for addressing the status quo seems to be a common theme with both of these brewing operations. But the similarities end there, due to the difference in scale, with Vagabund occupying the opposite end of the spectrum (think nano) from Stone. Seeking to make an impact to the Berlin beer scene back in 2011, these 3 Americans were unabashedly determined to serve up their quality take on what beer should be, in more of a brewpub atmosphere. The end result is something special.
Why is this on THL?
The environment at Vagabund is for the purests. The cozy brewery atmosphere, coupled with a location a bit further out of the core in Wedding, pretty much guarantees you'll be chatting with some local Berliners and wandering enthusiasts such as yourself. Pour on the pleasure of sampling some very small batch ales, and you have an enriching experience making a visit well worth the effort. If the timing is fortuitous (check HERE), you might be able to visit when they are offering their next brewing course. Now that's a lasting memory to take home with you. To make the most of the time commitment, be sure to also check out Eschenbräu a few blocks away.
